Fri. 31/7/15- It is 6:03 in the morning and we
have decided to capture the moment. Yesterday the Labuga Community had an
official moment with the current Mayor of Labuga, Vicente Interiano Colindres, at
a junior high named in honor of the first Garifuna teacher: Augusta Blanco Rubios. However the
name before that was Martin Luther King.
Don Beto Mejia was
instrumental in the field of education in our community. Seño Augusta, as she was well known, was like a
second mother for many of us in Labuga. As a matter of fact she has the credit
for giving me the name Tomas. There are
those who can give testimonies of her dedication to education in our community.
We had our first official
political speech yesterday, where we asked for a minute of silence in honor of
the public servants and the late mother of the Mayor.
In the meantime what we will
try to do here is to find a point of contact between the visit of Ambassador
Todd Robinson of the United Sates to Labuga with what transpired yesterday. It
was exactly three months ago yesterday since the visit of Ambassador Todd
Robinson to Labuga. The particular visit was organized by ONEGUA and the
Municipality of Labuga.
In this case we would like to
share with you our first political speech. In one of the most recent messages
we shared with you, we mentioned the first letter we wrote in Spanish 6th
September 1997.
On the other hand, the 6th
September 2015 is a day already set aside, and it is important for us to
understand as a people that for the most part it is going to be an ordinary day
in most parts of the world. In this case, Guatemala has called attention upon
itself for the world to watch us.

Les deseo a cada uno de ustedes el mejor hoy y siempre.
El concepto de nuestro discurso como Pueblo y Vecinos de Labuga por el
día de hoy es sobre los Servidores Públicos.
El alcalde actual de Labuga está
con nosotros y queremos aprovechar para solicitar un minuto de silencio en
honor a su querida madre. Siempre y cuando con el consentimiento de los
organizadores del evento.
Labuga todavía está compartiendo tu dolor. También es de aprovechar tomar en cuenta
todos y todas las personas que han sido Servidores Públicos.
Líderes y lideresas como Don Beto Mejía, Don Beto Silva y Profesora Augusta Blanco de Rubios.
Reconocemos los esfuerzos de cada
una de estas personas, especialmente en
el campo de la educación. Estas personas ya no están con nosotros
físicamente pero no hay ninguna duda de
que están con nosotros en Espíritu.
Un servidor público es una persona que está consciente de las realidades
de su gente y su pueblo. Es muy importante reconocer estas personas cuando
están vivos y cuando están con nosotros.
La primera vez cuando tuve la oportunidad de escuchar un discurso de
Raúl Estrada, un hijo del Pueblo, dijo lo siguiente que Vicente Interiano
Colindres es el mejor alcalde de Labuga y estamos aquí hoy para confirmar de
que es una realidad.
Aprovechando el tema de
Servidores Públicos. Lo que está pasando actualmente con los formadores del
futuro de Labuga y del país entero es muy
preocupante.
Nos preocupa la situación actual, no solamente aquí en Labuga pero
también en todo el país. Nos preocupa como Pueblo el rol que están jugando los
maestros y maestras de Labuga.
