Peace Image

Sat. 18/10/14- It is 5:42 in the morning and the message I would like to share with you today comes from these two words “Peace Image”. I just came across the thought that two days from today is a date that has marked my life forever. Pa Nery made his transition on the 20th October 2007. Since then, I have been paying tribute to my Pa in different capacities.  For example, while my Pa was in his coffin, I was present at a workshop sponsored by UNESCO at National Flags hotel in Labuga on the 20th October 2007.  The workshop was related with the safe-guarding of the Garifuna language.

It was Pa Nery, guided by his spirituality, that brought us to this moment. It is a moment that gives birth to an image of peace. But for us to draw this image I would like to invite you to Beluba Luba Furendei.

Beluba Luba Furendei was born out of a need that inspired a good friend from Chile in South America by the name of Ivan. I first met Ivan on a Sunday 24th April 2008 at the residence of Sara Martinez.  The meeting was about a library for the community of Labuga that had already started at the home of the Garcia family. Peter Garcia participated in one of my English classes in the month of August 2014.

Today is another celebration for Beluba; the English program will honor eleven students that have complied with the requirements. This particular group calls my attention due to the fact that my youngest student is the daughter of another friend.  This good friend of mine once quoted Malcolm X about the type of education we are feeding our children. In this case, I agreed one hundred and ten percent; we have to be careful with the type of education we are feeding our children. I came across the idea to have an English program for Beluba since 2008 and since then I have been going like an energizer battery.

We also have a volunteer program that is organized in Spain and for the entire life of the project they have gone beyond the call of duty. They have managed to pay the bills that approximates to Q 3000.00 quetzals, more or less $ 400.00 dollars a month. At the present moment we worried about the future of Beluba for the year 2015.

From my point of view, the Garifuna community has fallen short of my expectations.  Around this time of the year, one can cut the tension with a knife over which group or which person will get the twenty thousand for the celebration of the Garifuna Day from the Muni. What calls my attention is; the Garifuna Community is not reaping any beneficial results from this event.

I would for you to take one minute of your valuable time to meditate on the essence of what you just read.  Beluba Luba Furendei would like to continue serving our community and if you think that you can make a difference let me know and I will give you the full story about how the “Peace Image” was born.
